Ukraine’s national standard DSTU 4492: 2005 has been cancelled. Instead, DSTU 4492: 2017 “Sunflower oil. Technical specifications” was put into effect from January 1, 2019 (Order of the Ukrainian Research and Training Center of Standardization, Certification and Quality No. 161 of June 27, 2017 “On the adoption of national regulatory documents and the cancelation of national and interstate regulatory documents”).

Sunflower oil producers must update their technical statements for determining usable shelf lives as well as shelf lives after opening the consumer container (the latter applies to packaged goods).

The new DSTU contains sunflower oil types adjusted in line with international requirements. Also, it has an extended list of product safety indicators and safety study methods.

If the plant has expanded the range of its products, new technical statements should be developed for the new types of sunflower oil.

The usable shelf life shall be determined by directly measuring the induction period for each of the oil types. These works can be carried out by institutions having adequate technical fit-out, test methods and experience of completing such works.
