Sunflower seed exports in MY 2020/21 fell to a five-year low of 260.4 KMT (-18% y-o-y) due to a crop decline, the sector’s gradual switch to domestic crush, and export restrictions, UkrAgroConsult reports.

Since January 2021, Turkey has become more active in Kazakhstan’s market, attempting to partially offset sunseed export restrictions in Russia. So, Turkish importers purchased a total 18.5 KMT for the season vs. 3.4 KMT a year earlier.

China has yielded its market share to Uzbekistan due to quarantine restrictions and logistics problems.

A gain in sunseed exports was registered to Turkey (+441%), Tajikistan (+44%) and Uzbekistan (+12%).

A slowdown in exports was observed to China (-47%).
