Ukraine. Poor soil moisture could affect 2022 productivity of plants

26 October, 2021 at 17:10

Moderately cool weather with night frosts and insignificant precipitation was observed on October 11-20.

Currently, air temperatures are favorable for winter grains, but the fields are badly short of soil moisture that could surely adversely affect both winter survival and 2022 productivity of plants.

Farmers continue sowing winter grains and harvesting spring grains and pulses, UkrAgroConsult reports.

In most of the country, light precipitation in the form of rain occurred during 1-2 days, amounting to 1-13 mm (9-70% of normal). Therefore, the topsoil lacks effective moisture.

This is especially critical for winter crops planted after sunflower harvesting.

The most critical situation regarding soil moisture is seen in the northern, eastern and southern regions.
