Turkey’s share in Ukrainian barley keeps increasing

3 December, 2021 at 16:12

October 2021/22 Ukrainian barley exports totaled 737 KMT (-27% from September, +50% from October 2020/21). 4.5 MMT has been shipped abroad since the beginning of this season (+34% y-o-y). This is all-time high for this period of the year.

As before, the main buyer of Ukrainian barley is China, which stepped up imports by 10% from a year earlier. However, its share has shrunk by 4% over the month, to 55%, because of higher shipments to Turkey.

Turkey purchased more than 647 KMT of barley from Ukraine during the four months (for comparison, just 23 KMT was purchased in the entire 2020/21 season), UkrAgroConsult reports.

Iran has bought 91 KMT of Ukrainian barley this season (last time it made purchases in MY 2019/20).

The following countries also increased imports from the same time last year: Libya (+31%), Jordan (threefold), Israel (+18%), Algeria (+28%), Lebanon (threefold).

A decline happened in imports to the following markets: Saudi Arabia and Tunisia.
