China stopped importing Ukrainian barley in November

Ukrainian barley exports in November 2021/22 totaled 435 KMT. This is 41% lower from October, but 47% higher from November 2020/21. Almost 5 MMT had been exported since the beginning of the season (+35% y-o-y) that is an all-time high for this period, UkrAgroConsult reports.

The only major importer that reduced purchases of Ukrainian barley compared to a year earlier was China (-1% over July-November).

Other buyers stepped up imports from the same time last year: Saudi Arabia (+9%), Libya (+26%), Jordan (up fourfold), Tunisia (+29%), Israel (+18%), the EU (doubled), Iran (up fivefold).

In November, the largest volume went to Turkey, whose share in Ukrainian barley exports gained 2% over the month, to 16%.

China, Israel, Iran and Algeria made no purchases of Ukrainian barley in November.
