Japan entered the top 3 of the biggest importers of Ukrainian barley

Ukraine exported 2.7 MMT of barley during the four months in MY 2018/19 (July-October), or 23.5% less than in the same period last year (3.6 MMT). In addition, this is the smallest July-October volume since MY 2013/14, reports UkrAgroConsult.

At the same time, this season witnessed the largest volume of October exports since MY 2009/10. In October 2018/19, barley exports from Ukraine increased to 666.8 KMT that is up 13.3% from the previous month and up 60.3% from October 2017/18.

This season, Japan entered the top 3 of the biggest importers of Ukrainian barley, with the other two being Saudi Arabia and China. Japanese buyers boosted purchases to 120.6 KMT during the four months against 34.2 KMT in the whole of MY 2017/18.

It is also worth noting that Egypt has already imported 65.2 KMT of Ukrainian barley this season, though the country did not buy it in MY 2017/18.

At the same time, barley shipments to China plummeted in July - October 2018/19 by 59% against last year.
