Export of agricultural products in August amounted to 3.71 M mt, which is 322K mt or 9.5% higher than in July, 2023. The increase was due to record exports through the Danube ports of Ukraine and the intensification of shipments by rail through the western border crossings. Total grains exports amounted to 2.25 M mt.

In August, the share of land transport in total exports increased to 31.6%, the highest level in the last 12 months.

Deliveries by road

More than 259 K mt of agricultural products were exported by road, also the highest level in the last 5 months. The greatest demand was for rapeseed exported to the EU, which affected the cost of transporting.

Rail shipments

In August, 913 K mt of agricultural products were exported by rail, 25% more than in July, but still below the level of August 2022 (955 K mt). Wagon movements towards the western borders increased. However, the number of wagons crossing the borders remained stable. This led to an increase in wagon queues at some western border crossings.

According to Ukrainian Railways, the average number of grain wagons crossing the border each day in August was 463. Before the introduction of the EU ban, this indicator fluctuated in the range of 580-660 wagons per day.
