China opens its market to Ukrainian peas

6 March, 2025 at 18:03

On March 6, Ukraine's Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food signed an agreement with the People’s Republic of China, allowing the export of Ukrainian peas to the Chinese market. This agreement also includes the supply of wild-caught aquatic products. Ukraine's Minister of Agrarian Policy, Vitalii Koval, emphasized that entering the Chinese market is a strategic step to strengthen the country's economy and establish its position as a reliable supplier of agricultural products.

According to forecasts, this decision will boost Ukrainian pea exports, with production steadily increasing. In the MY 2024/25, the pea harvest is expected to reach 476,000 tons, exceeding the previous season's figures. The main export markets remain Turkey, India, Italy, Malaysia, and the UAE, while China is set to become a key buyer due to its rapidly growing import demand.
