China starts levying 100% duties on canola oil and peas from Canada

20 March, 2025 at 12:03

Chinese customs will start levying 100% duties on peas and canola oil, and 25% on pork and seafood from Canada on Thursday.

It is not yet clear how the tariffs will affect consumers, but industry participants say that list prices for oil in Canada, which fell after the tariffs were announced, may not rise. The federal government has said that China's tariffs are unjustified, but has not announced any specific plans to help canola farmers.
