In late November, Ukrzaliznytsia announced plans to increase freight rates for railway transportation by 16.6% from February 01, 2019 and by 2.5% from May 01, August 01 and November 01, 2019. Thus, in 2019, railway tariff will grow by 24.1%, which stands out significantly from previous years, without consideration of 2015, when the national currency devalued the most, reports UkrAgroConsult.
Last year Ukrzaliznytsia explained the increase in tariffs by the price growth for material resources, fuel and electricity, as well as by the need to invest in the rolling stock. The years 2016-2017 revealed an acute shortage of grain hoppers for transportation of agricultural commodities to export port terminals of the Black and Azov Seas.
By the end of 2018, we can say that the deficit began to decrease gradually due to the rapid growth of the private hopper park. Since the beginning of 2017 to the autumn of 2018, the private fleet of grain hoppers increased considerably, while the fleet of Ukrzaliznytsia did not change.
