Poland. Rapeseed crushers and farmers – who wins?

12 August, 2025 at 17:08

By early August 2025, Poland’s rapeseed harvest is nearly complete. About 1 M ha planted, output expected close to the five-year average. Crushing capacity exceeds 4 M mt/year, but with domestic supply, only 3.5–3.7 M mt are crushed typically.

The industry and Polish Oil Producers Association (PSPO), argue that imports from third countries — especially Ukraine — are vital to keep crush margin at high.  Crushers for three reasons, heavily criticize the import ban.

Despite the supply gap, Poland traditionally is RPS exporter. In 2024/25, the exports plunged, driven by the Ukrainian import ban and tighter domestic availability.

Two powerful economic camps are now in fierce discussions. Crushers want steady, low-cost supply; farmers demand protection from potential dumping.
