This past week old-crop wheat market waited for directions regarding the further actions in the Middle East and possibility of ceasefire. Traders took some pause to watch the situation in the market, while the Black Sea trading community was preparing for Orthodox Easter holiday and weaker trade.
According to the latest data of EuroStat, in July-January 2025/26 exports of Romanian wheat reached a new record for this period, which is 2 M mt higher than the 5-y average for the country.
Sharp rise noted in interest of Saudi Arabia, which continues to diversify the suppliers and doubled the purchases of Romanian wheat. This season Romania may export record volumes.
By contrast Egypt continues to decrease Romanian wheat purchases, despite expectations of higher total wheat imports this season.
Egypt looks more to other Black Sea origins, particularly Ukraine and russia.
This past week Romanian forward prices saw some volatility due to weaker holiday trade and wait-and-see mood of traders.
