Ukraine. Slowdown in corn planting

Grains. 4878 Th ha had been planted to spring grains and pulses by May 6. The planting progress is 13% behind last year (5637 Th ha has been seeded by May 7, 2018).

At the same time, corn planting is 19% behind last year, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Farmers continue planting buckwheat and millet.

Oilcrops. According to Ukraine’s Ag Ministry, 3670.6 Th ha of sunflower had been sown by May 6, 2019, or 64% of the projected 5714.1 Th ha (official data). Its planting is 16.9% behind last year: 4414.8 Th ha had been planted to sunflower by May 7, 2018.

As of the reporting date, soybean planting was also behind 2018 (-38.7%). So, 532.2 Th ha had been planted to this crop by May 6 (29.2% of the forecast 1821.9 Th ha) against 868.8 Th ha a year earlier.
