High demand from EU countries creates the prerequisites for expanding planted area of rape in Romania. However, the situation was adjusted by unfavorable weather conditions while planting for the 2019/20 harvest. According to UkrAgroConsult’s estimates, following the 2018/19 record, rape acreage fell by 53% (the least since MY 2013/14).
Because of the weather factor, the 2019 rapeseed crop dropped for a second consecutive season. Romania’s crop of this oilseed averaged 1340 KMT in the previous five seasons.
The crop slump could not but affect the pace of rapeseed exports. According to UkrAgroConsult’s estimates, 2019/20 rapeseed exports from Romania may hit the lowest since the 2012/13 season.
It is worth noting that the 2020/21 crop outlook is also dim for Romanian farmers: rapeseed was seeded in dry weather conditions.
