Bulgaria may harvest next rapeseed crop higher than in 2021

Rapeseed becomes attractive to growers in Bulgaria due to a tight world supply and demand balance of this crop and its products in MY 2021/22 with prices nearing record highs this season.

Real-time data indicate a faster pace of fall planting: as of December 9, planting was in progress on 135.4 Th ha (+9.5%, 123.6 Th ha a year earlier).

Diverse weather conditions were seen at the time of winter rape planting and growing: drought early in the fall, excessive October rains (which not only replenished moisture in the soil, but made it too wet and thereby hindered fall planting), above-normal air temperatures extending the growing season. Overall, the fall’s weather can be considered favorable.

With yields equal or slightly above the five-year average, Bulgaria may harvest rather good rapeseed crop. The winter period is traditionally important for forecasting and determining the productivity of winter crops. So, provided it is survived safely, yield may increase still more with the crop exceeding 2021 level, UkrAgroConsult reports.
