Romanian exporters of corn are opening new markets due to competition with Ukraine

2018/19 MY is the third consecutive season for Romania with the growth in corn production. Considering record corn yield obtained during the harvesting campaign 2018, UkrAgroConsult increased its estimate of Romanian corn production in 2018/19 MY.

Obtained volume allowed Romania to become corn producer number 1 in EU instead of France, reports UkrAgroConsult’s analysts.

Estimate of Romanian corn exports in the current season was increased to a new record. Previous record was reached in 2014/15 MY – 5.9 MMT.

Though, despite lower corn crop in France, tough competition this season is seen from Ukraine and realization of high Romanian export potential will depend on price strategy of Romanian exporters.

Romanian exporters try to increase their share in the markets of their regular non-EU buyers as well as actively opening new markets for their corn.
