Ukraine. Grain crop forecast for 2019

At the close of 2018, the State Statistics Service published data on the areas planted to winter crops. As UkrAgroConsult predicted, an appreciable expansion is seen in wheat and barley plantings.

Owing to favorable weather conditions and increased air temperatures in November-December, 97% of winter grain crops have emerged. Although this percentage is below last year’s 99.4%, it is nevertheless above the average for several years.

Crop condition is also fine for now, being the best in five years. The weather still poses no threat to crops either. Freezing temperatures do not reach critical values, and most of the country is covered with 3-30 cm of snow.
