Russia. Weather conditions favored harvest

25 September, 2018 at 13:09

Dry, abnormally warm weather dominated the European part of Russia on September 11-20 (20…25°C in the daytime, up to 28…32°С in the south), which was favorable for harvest. Rain complicated this work during 2-3 days (most areas received 15-25 mm of precipitation over this period, while some northern areas got up to 35-40 mm). Minor precipitation seen in the south of the territory (5-10 mm) was not a significant problem.

In most of the territory, the harvest of grains and rapeseed was drawing to an end, while that of sunseed, soybeans and linseed was still in progress. The weather conditions were mainly unfavorable for completing the yield formation of late-sown arable crops. In most areas, farmers continued sowing winter grains for the 2019 harvest. The weather conditions were good and fair for tillage, sowing and emergence of winter crops in most areas, though being unfavorable in the south due to soil moisture deficits.

Winter wheat and rye planted in August and early September were at the stages of germination, emergence and early leaf formation. Plant condition is mainly good, reports UkrAgroConsult.
