2018/19 rapeseed season in Ukraine to see new records

6 November, 2018 at 16:11

In the current 2018/19 season, the Ukrainian rapeseed market’s export potential has neared the 2008/09 record. Even some new records were set in its first three months.

As a reminder, according to UkrAgroConsult estimates, the market operates under the conditions of an oilseed crop increase that is just a bit more than 70 KMT short of the highest volume registered in MY 2008/09.

However, it is undoubtful already now that the results of the current 2017/18 season will differ significantly from MY 2008/09: the use of oilseeds will be shifted towards processing – UkrAgroConsult has already stated this before.

Domestic rapeseed processing in the 2018/19 season will rise to a record level. Rape oil production hit a high in July-September and will close the season at a record level again, even though the market traditionally becomes sluggish in subsequent months.
In the first three months of the 2018/19 season, records were set in exports of both rapeseed and rapeseed products.

The 2019 rapeseed crop outlook is still optimistic now. Planting of winter crops is over and, according to current data, their planted area reached 1021.3 Th ha that is 15% above forecast (888 Th ha). UkrAgroConsult expects winter rape plantings to expand that would be its largest size since the 2011/12 season.
