In August 2018, sunflower oil exports from Kazakhstan were the smallest in MY 2017/18. They totaled 2.8 KMT, or 40% less than in the previous month and 53% less than in August 2017. The reason was a record pace of exports seen throughout the marketing year. Overall, 2017/18 sunflower oil exports hit a high, having reached 76.4 KMT against 43.8 KMT a year ago, reports UkrAgroConsult.
Taking into account the course set by Kazakhstan for increasing oilseed production and processing, the new 2018/19 season will see further growth in export sales of sunseed products.
Most of sunflower oil supplies from Kazakhstan go to traditional neighboring markets. As before, the top importers include China (42% of total exports), Tajikistan (30%), and Uzbekistan (25%). These countries stepped up imports of the Kazakh product in the 2017/18 season. At the same time, purchases by Afghanistan (3%) decreased. A minor market share is accounted for by some other countries, including noteworthy new European importers such as Germany and the Czech Republic.
