In the first 7 months of the season, Ukraine exported almost 10 million tons of wheat. The main importer of Ukrainian wheat is Spain, where about 25% of total exports went.
This was stated by Maksym Kharchenko, grain market analyst at UkrAgroConsult, during the All-Ukrainian practical forum “Agronomist’s Day”.
The analyst said that there is a shortage of feed grain in Spain, so they are actively buying Ukrainian wheat.
“Another feature of this season is the focus of exporters on Southeast Asia. Wheat was actively shipped to Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand, where livestock development and growing demand for feed grain are observed,” said Mr. Kharchenko.
He added that another peculiarity of the wheat export geography is exports to Algeria. The expert explains that this is usually a traditional market for French wheat. But this season, France harvested the smallest wheat crop in the last 20 years, so Ukraine managed to gain a foothold in this market. It is expected that if the current situation continues, Ukraine will also be able to export significant volumes of wheat there next season.
