High prices for peas can stimulate the increase of sown areas in Ukraine

5 February, 2025 at 13:02

This season, the prices for peas in Ukraine have reached high levels - $360-385 per ton on CPT (Odesa). According to Maksym Kharchenko, grain market analyst at UkrAgroConsult, such prices may encourage farmers to increase the area under this crop, especially if losses of winter crops are recorded after wintering. He said this during the All-Ukrainian practical forum “Agronomy Day”.

“The rise in pea prices is due to several factors. First of all, India has abolished duties on imports of this crop. In addition, new processing facilities are appearing in Ukraine, which also affects the price. Despite not the highest yields of the last season, peas remain attractive for farmers this year,” said Maksym Kharchenko. The analyst also emphasized that peas could become one of the key crops for Ukrainian farmers in the current economic environment.
