How Ukraine’s spring oilseeds are performing in early July

9 July, 2026 at 11:07

As the spring oilseeds gradually enters season shifting period, hot weather is once again raising concerns about their 2026 production potential. For both sunflower and soybean, the coming weeks will largely determine whether crop expectations are stable or need further revisions.

The most critical growth stages for both crops are flowering, reproductive development and seed filling. Moisture shortages combined with extreme temperatures during these phases can cause irreversible yield losses.

The heatwave at the end of June and beginning of July has become the main risk factor for sunflower and soybean crops, although its impact on yield potential remains limited so far. Most crops have not yet entered the most critical development stages, while the forecast of cooler temperatures and localized rainfall supports a generally positive outlook. Nevertheless, weather conditions throughout July will be decisive for yield formation, particularly in areas facing persistent soil moisture deficits.
