India increased sunflower oil imports by 23% in January 2019

India imported 1.23 MMT of vegetable oils in January 2019, or just 3 KMT less than in the same month last year (1.24 MMT), reports UkrAgroConsult.

Sunflower oil imports in January were up 23% year-on-year at 200 KMT against 163 KMT in January 2018, while palm oil purchases rose by 2%, to 833 KMT against 817 KMT, respectively.

Soybean oil imports fell to 186 KMT from 228 KMT a year earlier (down 18%), while rape oil imports plummeted to 9 KMT from 19 KMT (-52.6%) and purchases of palm kernel oil dropped to 10 MMT from 14 MMT (-28.5%).

From October 2018 to January 2019, India imported 4.7 MMT of vegetable oils against 4.8 MMT a year earlier (-2%). Shipments of rape and soybean oils slumped the most – by 69% and 23%, respectively.

Palm oil purchases in the first four months of MY 2018/19 gained 6%, to 3.2 MMT against 3 MMT a year earlier.  At the same time, sunflower oil imports were up 3% year-on-year at 758 KMT (736 KMT), with palm kernel oil imports up 23% at 43 KMT (35 KMT) and coconut oil deliveries up at 2 KMT (1 KMT).
