In the beginning of the 2017/18 agricultural season, navigation in the Kerch Strait was restricted because of the construction of a bridge linking the Crimean and Taman peninsulas. From now on, to enter the Azov Sea, the vessel is to be at most 33 m high above the water surface and at most 160-m long. Thus, Panamax-type vessels are no more able to pass there. UkrAgroConsult is going to find out the degree to which this has affected grain exports from Ukraine’s Azov Sea ports and what their future looks like.
The passage of ships larger than the established size limits was prohibited almost throughout MY 2017/18, but handling of grains and grain products in the Azov Sea ports increased 10%.
