Ukraine 2022 peas harvest forecast

By late May, Russian troops left the territory of the northern regions of Ukraine – Kyiv, Chernihiv and Sumy. However, in a large part of Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhia,Kharkiv, Kherson, and Mykolayiv regions, military actions still continue  or the regions are under occupation.

This is the reason for UkrAgroConsult changing the peas planted areas: previous years, pea areas were located mainly in the Zaporozhye region. In 2022, peas production areas shifted to the north, stretching from Odessa to Kharkiv region.

UkrAgroConsult forecast of feed peas areas remains unchanged.

So far, in 2022 spring crops, incl. feed peas, delay their vegetation due to low air temperature compared to the norm and insufficient soil moisture. In addition, military risks prevent farmers from applying the necessary fertilizers and plant protection. The peas harvest-2022 may become a historic low, UkrAgroConsult reports.

Exports of Ukrainian peas, as well as other grain from Ukraine, slowed down after the deployment of hostilities in Ukraine.

In March – May 2022, the average peas exports across the Ukraine western border comprise about 3 K MT / month. A number of projects to increase the border crossings capacity have been launched in western Ukraine. However, the peas exports strongly compete logistically with the exports of corn and SFS.
