It was abnormally warm on February 18-22 for this time of the year. According to long-term meteorological data, such weather conditions are typical for March 1-20. The average daily air temperature this past week ranged from -2.00С to +6.00С, i.e. it turned out to be 2-60С above normal, even 4-100С above normal in the southern and western regions.

Insignificant precipitation in the form of drizzle, rain, sleet and snow occurred almost all over the country, except for Kherson, Odesa and Zaporizhia regions.

The present agrometeorological conditions are favorable for winter grains, reports UkrAgroConsult.

Owing to high daytime air temperatures, winter crops started growing on February 4-5. Underdeveloped plants of winter wheat locally advanced to the next stage (large-scale sprouting and the emergence of the third leaf), while slow tillering continued in the rest of plantings. However, exposed to average daily air temperatures within 1.4-4.80С, crops did not resume spring growth in full. Winter wheat plants are in the tillering stage.

Overall, winter grains are in good and fair condition. No critical temperatures dangerous to winter crops have occurred since the early fall.

The temperature rise made it possible for farmers to begin spring fieldwork. As of February 22, 2019, fertilization of winter crops is underway almost all over the country, except for Luhansk, Poltava, Sumy, Volyn and Chernihiv regions.
