USDA forecasts for Ukraine’s 2017/18 crop: lowered corn and upped wheat
15 February, 2018 at 13:02February’s USDA report presented revised estimates for Ukrainian grain production and exports in the 2017/18 season. In particular, the wheat production forecast for Ukraine was raised by almost 500 KMT to 26.981 MMT. At the same time, the estimate for Ukrainian corn output was also cut by almost 500 KMT to 24.115 MMT and the respective export figure was reduced to 20 MMT.
In addition, the forecasts for other Black Sea countries underwent changes, too. So, the USDA once again raised its estimate for 2017/18 wheat exports from Russia by another 1 MMT to 36 MMT, reports UkrAgroConsult.
The forecasts for Black Sea barley exports were also revised upwardly: by 400 KMT to 5.2 MMT for Russia and by 100 KMT to 800 KMT for Kazakhstan.
Romanian rapeseed exports set a record last season, when they totaled 1400 KMT according to official data. The nation managed to achieve this not only owing to crop shortfalls in France and Poland, which are the top suppliers in the EU domestic market. Decreased competition from Ukraine, where total rapeseed production also declined, made it possible for Romania to expand its share in EU markets.
